Laten we vooropstellen dat de keuze voor een 'best of' van Miles Davis altijd arbitrair is. Je kunt zeggen dat twee cd's veel te weinig is, dat de samenstelling anders zou moeten, etc, etc. Op deze set is de eerste cd getiteld Cool Standards en loopt van 1958 tot 1967, de tweede cd, getiteld New Directions, loopt van 1982 tot 1992.
