Deze uitvoering van "Dido and Aeneas" werd in de Luister van februari 2001 gewaardeerd met een zeven. Aan de magere kant voor een dirigent als René Jacobs en solisten als Lynne Dawson en Gerald Finley. De kritiek is terecht, maar het cijfer geeft waarschijnlijk een vertekenend beeld. Als het gaat om opnamen van deze Purcell-opera zijn we immers zo verwend; er zijn zoveel goede. Alleen scoort de ene uitvoering op een bepaald punt misschien weer net iets beter dan de ander. Zo is het inderdaad jammer...
